Ash's Sinnoh adventure begins very difficultly, as [[Team Rocket (Anime)|Team Rocket]] immediately attempts to capture Pikachu, separating him from his Trainer. On his way to [[Hearthome]] he encounters the [[Elite Four]] member [[Lucian#In the anime|Lucian]] and the Champion of the Sinnoh region, [[Cynthia]]. Once in Hearthome, he participates in the [[Hearthome Two-Way Match]] starting in ''[[A Partner to Break Up!]]'' with Paul as his randomly assigned partner, as the [[Pokémon Gym]] is still closed at that time. While the competition is still ongoing, he takes [[Ash's Infernape|Paul's Chimchar]] into his team, which Paul had released because it was too weak for him. On the way to his closure, Unfortunately, in the episode "[[An Unexpected Trade!]]," he trades his [[Dawn's Ambidextrous|his Aipe]] for [[Ash's Buizel|Birth's Buizel]] on Zoey's advice, as Buizel is more interested in competitions and Buizel is more interested in battles.

In Elysees, he encounters Cynthia and Team Galactic again, who want to steal the [[White Orb]], which the crooks succeed in doing.

Before his Gym battle in Hearthstead, he encounters another Elite 4 member, [[Herbaro#In the anime|Herbaro]]. [[Ash's Turtwig|Ash's Turtwig]] evolves into [[Ash's Turtwig|Turtwig]] in the battle against [[Paul's Kramshef]], and Ash meets his new rival [[Barry (anime character)|Barry]] in ''[[Seek and Find!]]''.

In [[Heart Home]], he defeats [[Lamina#In the anime|Lamina]] in a 3-on-3 match and receives his fifth badge. Shortly thereafter, in the episode ''[[A Good Thought is Half the Battle!]]'' in [[Fleetburg]], he receives his sixth badge from Veit's father [[Adam#In the anime|Adam]].

On [[Iron Island]], he helps [[Urs#In the anime|Hordeo]] thwart Team Galactic's machinations. At the PokéRinger competition in Wind Town, his Staravia evolves into [[Ash's Staraptor|Staraptor]].

In a suburb of [[Blizzach]], the young trainer participates in a ping-pong tournament with [[Ash's Pikachu|Pikachu]], but is eliminated in the first round. Arriving in Blizzach, he wins his seventh badge from [[Frida]] in the local gym. On his way to [[Sunsetwood]], Ash and his friends make a detour to [[Twinleaf Village]] because of a tournament. On the way there, he competes in a 6-6 match against Paul in ''[[With Diligence and Courage, Everything Will Be Alright!]]'' and the following episode, which he loses. During this battle, his Chimchar evolves into [[Ash's Infernape|Panpyro]]. In Twinleaf Village, he then participates in the tournament there, defeats Barry in the finals, and receives a trophy. He also gets the chance to fight Barry's father, Viktor, which he narrowly loses.

At Crater Mountain, starting in the episode "Something's Brewing!," the final clash with Team Galactic takes place. Team Galactic now wants to implement its plan to create a new world. With the help of Cynthia, the children are able to prevent this catastrophe. Near Sunnimix, Ash catches a Kaumalat and fights Barry again, during which his Panpyro evolves into Infernape.

Having arrived in Sunwick, he must, with the help of [[Ignaz#In the anime|Ignaz]], the third [[Elite Four]] member, reawaken the fighting spirit of the [[Gym Leader]] [[Volkner#In the anime|Volkner]], which they succeed in doing.

His Gym battle is interrupted, however, by Team Rocket, who want to hijack a power-generating tower. During the recapture of the tower, his Tornadus evolves into [[Ash's Tornadus|Tortora]]. In the episode "[[The Art of Observation!]]," Ash also encounters the last member of the Sinnoh region's elite, [[Teresa#In the anime|Teresa]]. After the [[Grand Festival|Grand Festival]], Ash and his friends return to Sonnevik. There, the Gym battle against Volkner is repeated, which Ash wins.<br>

In the [[Sinnoh League]], which begins in "[[The Tournament is Open]]," Ash defeats [[Nando]], [[Conway]], and Paul before losing to [[Tobias (Sinnoh)|Tobias]] in the semifinals. In ''[[The Farewell!]]'', his, Brock's, and Dawn's paths finally diverge: Dawn stays in Sinnoh to pursue her dream of becoming a top [[Pokémon Coordinator]], while Ash and Brock return to [[Kanto]]. There, the boys say goodbye to each other, as Brock now wants to become a Pokémon doctor. Ash continues to pursue his dream to become a Pokémon Master.
