Delia appears in the episodes in which Ash returns to [[Pallet Town]], and in the [[Pokémon League|Pokémon Leagues]] of the first regions and in the [[Alola League]], supporting her son, except in the [[Sinnoh League Tournament]], the [[Unova League/Unova League]], and the [[Kalos League]], in addition to her starring role in some episodes of the [[Pokémon Chronicles]] and her appearance in some movies.

As can be seen in a photo from the third Pokémon movie {{P|03|Spell of the Unown|Same}}, Delia has known Professor Oak and Professor Spencer Hale, with whom she has a very good friendship, for many years; which implies that she has been living in Pallet Town for a long time and that she raised her son Ash there, who occasionally played with Molly Hale, the daughter of her friend Spencer. Delia also got to know Spencer's wife before she disappeared.

In the seventh season episode {{EP|362|Lights, Camerupt, Action!|Lights, Camerupt, Action!}}, it is shown how Delia and Professor Oak used to take their son Ash and grandson Gary, respectively, to see movies together before the two began their journey.

Delia first appears in the anime in the first episode of the first season {{EP|001|Pokémon, I Choose You!|Pokémon, I Choose You!}}, where she enters Ash's room to send him to sleep. Ash tells her he can't sleep because he's anxious about his trip, so Delia tells him that if he's going to stay awake, he should at least watch educational programs by putting on a documentary on TV where Professor Oak talks about the next aspiring Pokémon trainers.

The next day, Delia, along with other Pallet Town residents, gather at the entrance to Professor Oak's lab to welcome Ash after obtaining his first Pokémon. Delia packs Ash's backpack with everything he needs for his trip, including his clothes, and orders him to change his underwear daily. After seeing Ash's starter Pokémon, Pikachu, she comments that it seems like a strange Pokémon for not wanting to enter its Poké Ball, which provokes Pikachu, who electrocutes Delia, Ash, and the rest of the residents, leaving them unconscious.

In the following episode, {{EP|002|Pokémon Emergency|Same}}, Ash contacts Delia after arriving at the Pokémon Center in Viridian Town, where Delia is surprised to learn that Ash had arrived so quickly. Delia tells Ash that it took his father (his grandfather, in the Japanese version) four days to get there, and that he would be proud of his son. Delia then tries to cheer Ash up with her enthusiasm, but Ash is still worried about Pikachu, who is badly injured after being attacked by Spearow. Later, Professor Oak mentions during his call with Ash that Delia was the one who told him Ash had already arrived in Viridian City.

In {{EP|064|It's Mr. Mime Time|Mr. Mime Time}}, Ash disguised himself as Mr. Mime. Ironically, a real Mr. Mime knocked on Delia's door asking for food. She thought it was Ash in disguise, pretending to be her son and treating him like he was hers. She didn't realize it until Ash returned home and saw them together. Eventually, Mr. Mime stayed with Delia, helping her with the housework. Starting in {{EP|1091|Legend? Go! Friends? Go!|Legend? Let's go! Friends?
